Self Advocacy

Tools to speak up for yourself, groups run by people with IDD, and plain guides to your rights.

Your voice, your choices

Self-advocacy means speaking up for yourself, knowing your rights, and making your own choices. The self-advocacy movement has a motto: Nothing about us without us. People with IDD should lead the decisions about their own lives.

  • Say what you want and what you do not want.
  • Ask questions until you understand.
  • Choose who helps you.
  • Join other self-advocates to change rules and laws.
