About IDD Atlas

A map for the whole journey

IDD Atlas is a free national guide for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the people who love them.

Why we built it

Finding services for a person with IDD can mean dozens of websites, phone calls, and wait lists, often in a different system in every state. IDD Atlas brings it into one place: services near you, plain answers to the big questions, your rights, tools to speak up, and how your state measures up.

IDD Atlas is built and kept up by ConnectIDD, a consulting firm that works with nonprofits serving people with IDD across the country. ConnectIDD's founder, Michael Thomas, has spent nearly 20 years in the IDD field, including 14 years leading a nonprofit for adults with IDD.

Nothing about us without us

That is the motto of the self-advocacy movement, and it guides this site. People with IDD should shape the tools made for them. We test pages with self-advocates and families, and we are building a group of advisors with IDD who review what we publish.

Want to help review pages? We would love to hear from you.

What we promise

  • Free. IDD Atlas is free for people with disabilities and families.
  • Fair. Sponsors never decide who is listed, how listings are checked, or the order of results.
  • Honest. Every listing shows how it was checked: Self Verified, Confirmed Profile, or Registry Listing.
  • Private. No ads that follow you. The tools on this site do not store what you type.
  • Plain. Short sentences, clear steps, and person-first language unless someone tells us they prefer other words.

What IDD Atlas is not

IDD Atlas gives information and points to services. It is not a case manager, a medical or legal service, or an emergency service. For an emergency, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988.
